Chhath Puja is an ancient Hindu festival (Sanatan Dharma) dedicated to the God Sun and Chhathi Maiya
(known to be the sister of Surya), Also known as Katyayani form of Durga/Devasena.
The festival is observed most elaborately in Madhesh (southern) region of Nepal and Indian states of Bihar, Jharkhand and UP.
The Chhath festival begin with the Nahai-Khai ritual, followed by Kharna. The third day of Chhath puja
is evening Arghyadaan(offering prayer to Sun God) and on the fourth day, morning Arghyadaan is performed.
Significance : To thank God Sun for bestowing the bounties of life on earth and fulfilling particular wishes.
The festival is celebrated in the regions including but not exclusive to the northeast region of India,
Mauritius, Fiji, South Africa, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Suriname, Jamaica, other parts of the Caribbean,
United States, United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Macau, Japan and Indonesia.
